It was first released on October 7, 2003, with a new model design in 2005 and the L-Max with A/V hookups that same year, the Leapster TV in 2006, the Leapster2 in 2008, the Leapster Explorer in 2010, and finally the LeapsterGS Explorer in 2012. The Leapster line was discontinued around 2012, when LeapFrog 's LeapPad tablets were released.
(The LEAPFROG Connect Application for Leapster EXPLORER is different from the Connect Application for other LEAPFROG products.) You will need to download and install the Connect software for Leapster EXPLORER from leapfrog.com/connect or from the CD-ROM included with your handheld.
NOTE: The Leapster EXPLORER™camera accessory is designed to be used with a Leapster EXPLORER handheld (sold separately). Please read this Leapster EXPLORER™camera accessory manual carefully and completely.
All LeapStart ® books will work with all LeapStart ® interactive learning systems. Animations only work with LeapStart ® systems that can display images. LeapStart ® Go Deluxe Activity Sets are only compatible with the LeapStart ® Go system.* LeapReader ® books are only compatible with the LeapReader ® system.
The Leapster was an educational games console meant exclusively for young kids, powered by the magic of Macromedia Adobe Flash. It appears to have done decently well for its purpose, having a couple of upgrades along the way. A simple diagnostics screen can be accessed by holding down the Hint button and powering the system on.
