Oct 02, 2010 . Raritan's Lectra/San MC first macerates the sewage and then uses electrically charged saltwater to kill bacteria. After destroying bacteria and viruses, it reverts back to salt and water. When the treated discharge empties into the water, it does not add any illness-causing elements to the environment, so it meets EPA Type 1 standards for overboard discharge.

The current laws today, as written in 1974 state that a Type I device can not put out more than 1,000 fecal coliform per 100 ml. Remember, Raritan’s first Lectra/San put out only 14 per 100 ml. Today’s unit is called the Electroscan and while the basic principle for operation has not changed the amount of power required to run it has.

Nov 19, 2010 . The electrical wiring for the Electro-Scan is a good deal different than it is for the older dial type Lectra/San, so be expecting to rip out some of the existing wiring and replace it with new. No installation manual comes with the upgrade kit, with step by step instructions; only the Electro-Scan manual comes with the kit.

And after 5 or 6 regular flushes - like over the course of a night with 2 people using the same head, it no longer discharges. The head will no longer flush properly and fills up. Included with the Lectra/San is a Control Indicator Panel and saltwater feed tank (optional, but needed for our installation). Installation instructions specify the type of wire and other electrical fittings needed for 12-, 24- or 32-volt setup.
Other miscellaneous supplies included PVC cement, for attaching hose fittings to the unit, and Teflon tape for all threaded connections. Lectra/San MC, a mini onboard treatment system, uses salt to treat sewage immediately and automatically with each flush and meets the USCG requirements for a Type I MSD.
