Louis L'Amour was a prodigious writer. He had to be, in the beginning, since they didn't pay much per story. Having just re-read Sackett, I picked up this novel. You can picture the same actor playing Tell in Sackett and Con in The Quick and the Dead. Strong, gruff, but someone to ride across the country with when there is no law to protect you.

Louis L'Amour's 115 title-plus bibliography is astonishing on its own; even more so given the fact that his writing career did not start in earnest until his 40s. Simply being prolific, however, does not a bestselling author make. L'Amour's Western stories, as written by a real-life adventurer, capture the survivalism and code of honor on which the American frontier mythology rests.

Mr. L’Amour’s ease of words places you in environments in which one can only see in old westerns and to be honest isn’t this what every American boy dreams of at one time or another? Louis L'Amour was a prodigious writer. He had to be, in the beginning, since they didn't pay much per story. Having just re-read Sackett, I picked up this novel.
Born 1908 in Jamestown, North Dakota, Louis L’Amour was brought up by a Mr and Mrs Charles and Emily LaMoore. One of seven children, he grew up within the wide and expansive farmland that was to inspire much of his writing career during his adult life.
A strong female is always a pleasant addition to westerns. The story's pacing is good with a solid amount of action, balanced with timely introspection. For such a short book, Louis L'Amour manages to pack in plenty of punch. Recommended for western fans! If you like classic western stories, then you know the work of Louis L'Amour. Need I say more?
