Making Memories, aside from being an annoyingly overused saying, is an oxymoron. And what about the other mantra of the day, to “live mindfully”, which totally contradicts “Making Memories.” For starters, you cannot MAKE a memory. A memory is a thought about a past occurrence, so how do you create a past thought?

In addition to item-specific features influencing memory, procedural details of Sneve et al.'s (2015) study may have played a role in the greater hippocampal–cortical connectivity found to be involved in the formation of long-lasting memories. The Art of Making Memories is half breezy pop science covering how to have a memorable life, and half Wiking digressing into how great it is to be a walking TED talk and Very Special Danish boy. The effort of trying to make memories isn't really about Making Memories because the brain's doing that all along. So, what's going on? When you are focused on Making Memories you are projecting into the future to imagine what you think (or others will think) you'll look like in the past.
The Art of Making Memories examines how mental images are made, stored, and recalled in our brains, as well as the “art of letting go”—why we tend to forget certain moments to make room for deeper, more meaningful ones.
The trio of MEMORIES along with Wiking’s others (THE LITTLE BOOK OF HYGGE and THE LITTLE BOOK OF LYKEE about Danish life) would make beautiful additions to any home’s décor. Stacked on a bookshelf, guest bedroom nightstand, or fireplace mantle, the mere sight of them is bound to make you feel just a wee bit cozier.
When long-term memories form, the hippocampus retrieves information from the working memory and begins to change the brain’s physical neural wiring. These new connections between neurons and synapses stay as long as they remain in use.
Stages of Memory Creation. The brain has three types of memory processes: sensory register, short-term memory, and long-term memory. In the sensory register process, the brain obtains information from the environment. This activity is short, lasting at most a few seconds.
A new MIT study of the neural circuits that underlie this process reveals, for the first time, that memories are actually formed simultaneously in the hippocampus and the long-term storage location in the brain’s cortex. However, the long-term memories remain “silent” for about two weeks before reaching a mature state.
A number of factors impact the way the brain retrieves a memory — if it’s recalled at all. The brain has three types of memory processes: sensory register, short-term memory, and long-term memory. In the sensory register process, the brain obtains information from the environment.
Like Freud, Jung believed that memory formation begins in early infancy, and that the more traumatic an individual’s memories are, the more troubled he or she is likely to be as an adult.
