Good job Maldol for ammateurs that no have big áreas for yagis, dipoles or big vesrticals antenas. WB4SLI Rating: 2011-06-07; It Works Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. This is not a five element yagi. For its size the performance of it is good. I used an MFJ 259B to set the antenna up. 80 meters is testy, but I had reasonable results on 40 and up.

I ran a Maldol HM6CS for over a year - aerial remained attached to the roof of my VW Golf 24/7/365. Was very happy with the performance of the antenna - SWR was a bit squiffy on 21Mhz, but it still worked very well. Put 100W through it regularly with no issues.

The collars can be rotated and fixed, so all of the radials are located on one side for side-mounting on a tower or next to a building wall for stealth operation! Each HF and 6 meter band has its own tuning stub.
3. If you are using one of these antennas can you tell me about your experiences with operating in the 80 and 40 meter bands? The QST September 2003 review stated that the HVU-8 covers only 3.5 - 3.575 on 80 meters and 7.0 -7.10 Mhz which isn't helpful if you hold only a General class license.

I have explored many dipoles and just don't have room for proper installation. I have seen these two antennas the HVU-8 and the MFJ 2389 and from my observations they seem to be the same antenna.
