Apr 23, 2019 . The marigold seeds do not need sunlight to germinate, but they do benefit from a clear plastic lid acting as a greenhouse lid. The seedlings should germinate about a few days, at which point they should start receiving about six hours of light a day. Keep an eye on them and thin the seedlings once they start producing a second set of leaves.

Optional: If soil is nutrient-starved, add some slow-release (granular) fertilizer in the planting hole. A 5-10-5 works fine.

Apr 23, 2013 . Sadly, Maragold does not even get a shot at the brass ring, getting the airplay, much deserved exposure or backing these other so-called acts get. Of course, there are many reasons behind this and I'm not getting into that discussion, because I don't have that much time in my hands, plus if you're a fan of Greg's then I'd be preaching to the choir!

Marigolds take 45 to 50 days to flower after the seeds are planted. Early April is the best month in which to plant marigolds, with flowering occurring in May.
Keep the marigold seeds moist during germination. When the soil temperature is between 60 and 75 degrees F, the marigold seeds will germinate within two weeks. When the soil temperature is between 75 and 80 degrees F, the marigold seeds will germinate within one week.
Plant vegetable seedlings in your garden bed, leaving an empty space every two plants. Sow marigold seeds, two to three, in the empty spaces between vegetable seedlings. Cover the seeds with soil and lightly tamp it down. Sow the remaining marigold seeds along the borders of the vegetable garden.
You can plant marigold seeds directly outdoors in the spring after the danger of frost has passed for your area or start seeds indoors up to about eight weeks before the last frost. Seeds usually germinate within four to 14 days in soil temperatures between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
