Therefore you don't necessarily need a huge gain, but it is good to look for a low noise level. Most quote about 3dB for noise level. Correct but 3dB noise is 50 percent! That's way too high. 2- Install a cable between the room where the power supply will go and connect into the output of the masthead amplifier. 3 – Connect PSU, plug into mains supply and connect masthead amplifier output cable into the section that distributes the DC. This is usually labelled ‘12V’ or ‘Aerial’ and switch on.
If you put an amplifier at the TV end of the lead you just amplify both the wanted signals and the interference so don't really do anything to alliviate the effects of the interference. A masthead amplifier however boosts the signal BEFORE any induced interference into the cable.
For many, freeview requires a wideband aerial. I have the next one down, DAT45, and it's still a very good aerial. Masthead amplifiers are used to minimise the loss from the cable between the aerial and the receiver. Therefore you don't necessarily need a huge gain, but it is good to look for a low noise level.
