Payroll. Tax. Insurance. Compliance. It’s time-consuming and may seem overwhelming. The IRS estimates that it can take a household employer 60 hours each year to comply with all federal and state tax laws and get your Nanny taxes done right.
The Nanny tax isn’t just Social Security and Medicare taxes —referred to as FICA taxes —that are normally split evenly between an employer and their employee. It also includes federal income tax withholding, although you don’t have to contribute to this.
– Taxes paid by the employer: Social Security & Medicare taxes, as well as federal & state unemployment insurance. For tax year 2021, Nanny taxes come into play when a family pays any household employee $2,300 or more in a calendar year (or $1,000 or more in a calendar quarter for unemployment insurance taxes).
The third form is your Schedule H form which can be submitted by tax day. The Schedule H form is called the "Household Employment Taxes" which helps you determine how much you'll pay for your Nanny taxes which are Social Security, Medicare, Withheld Income, and Federal Unemployment (FUTA) Taxes.
