The first significant payout to Nassar’s victims was announced in 2018, when Michigan State promised to give $500 million to survivors of the doctor’s abuse. It was believed to be the largest settlement reached in a sexual abuse case involving an American university.
Nassar, 58, a former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics doctor, has been accused of sexual abuse under the guise of medical treatment by more than 260 women. He will rot in prison until death with sentences totaling hundreds of years for criminal sexual conduct and child pornography convictions.
Nassar was born on August 16, 1963 in Farmington Hills, Michigan to Fred Nassar (1925–2000) and Mary Nassar. In 1978, he began working as a student athletic trainer for the women's gymnastics team at North Farmington High School on the recommendation of his older brother Mike, who was an athletic trainer at the school.
There is no amount of money that can undo what Nassar did to his victims, the physical, emotional and mental distress they endured at his hand, under the guise of providing health care.
