Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why choose Nautel?

Since building the world’s first solid-state navigational beacon transmitter over 50 years ago, Nautel has become a leading supplier and developer of NDB (non-directional radio beacon), DGPS systems and enhanced LORAN (LOng RAnge Navigation) technology worldwide.

  • Why choose Nautel radiobeacons?

Since introducing the world’s first totally solid state, high power radiobeacon in 1970, Nautel has supplied the highest quality and reliability in non-directional radio beacons. The most recent Vector Series Transmitters and Antenna Tuning Units continue this heritage and provide a dramatic improvement in system coverage.

  • What is a Nautel antenna?

Nautel takes a ‘whole system’ approach, improving availability, performance and reliability. Nautel designers have evolved the relationship between the NDB, antenna tuning unit (ATU) and the antenna itself to create radio beacons dependable enough to be trusted for the most mission-critical applications.

  • What is the Nautel GUI?

This feature virtually eliminates seasonal visits to NDB sites to re-tap the traditional fixed-tapped matching transformers and is unique to Nautel ATUs. Located on the front panel of the transmitter, the GUI allows for set-up, control and monitoring of the NDB without the need for a local computer or laptop.

  • How many transmitters does a Nautel N1 have?

Nautel N+1 configurations support up to six identical main transmitters plus a backup transmitter serving outputs of 300 watts to 40 kilowatts of solid-state power. DIGIDIA has the complete solution for the transmission of FM programs through a network of FM transmitters using the same channel for a dedicated coverage area.

  • What makes the Nautel Vs series different?

Many transmitters in the 300 W to 2.5 kW class use an inexpensive analog exciter that is sometimes an external unit. But in the VS Series, not only did Nautel engineers integrate the exciter, they implemented a true direct-to-channel digital exciter to achieve class leading performance. That means crystal clear audio and outstanding value.

  • What are the advanced features of Nautel phonehome?

Advanced control features include: Nautel PhoneHome is a virtual watch dog that continuously monitors and logs all critical parameters of your transmitter, diagnosing problems sometimes before they can affect transmitter performance.

  • What is the USB port on the new Nautel for?

Nautel added a USB port so that you can connect huge local storage for content, or even load up the songs and content using the VS internet connection. Once you have audio loaded it can become part of the automated back up audio capability should all other connections fail.
