Fibre-to-the-Node is the most common type of NBN™ internet connection. Fibre optic cables roll out to a common node in the area, like a NBN™ street cabinet. From the node, existing copper infrastructure finishes the connection to each individual home. This means nothing changes inside your home so in most cases you won’t need an appointment.

The NBN™ connection box and its cover, Power Supply with Battery Backup, standard power supply and the fibre optic cable on your property are your responsibility to keep in good condition, just as you are responsible for your other services such as power, phone and gas.
Grab the Ethernet cable with red connectors and plug one end into the red port on your modem – it’s the one that says ‘Fibre’. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable with red connectors into the Uni-DPort on the underside of the NBN Connection Box (your Welcome Letter tells you which one it is).
To do this: 1. ™Turn on your NBN connection box by switching on the power at the wall (there is no power switch on the NBN™connection box) 2. ™Allow up to 10 minutes for your NBN connection box to start up – the front panel lights Power, Downstream, Upstream and Online will flash (see Section 5 on pages 9 and 10 for details) 3.

Your new NBN™ equipment The NBN™ equipment installed is comprised of three components: The NBN™ outdoor antenna and cable that connects the NBN™ outdoor antenna into your property, the wall outlet and the NBN™ connection box – which is the hand off point between the NBN™ network and your internal wiring and connected equipment.
For more information regarding battery warning lights and tones, please refer to the NBN ™ Fibre User Guide. Tip: If possible, avoid turning your main power on and off as this will significantly reduce your battery life. This also applies if you’re disconnecting the Power Supply unit for a significant amount of time.
While your phone and internet provider isn't required to offer the battery back-up, in some circumstances they can arrange for a battery back-up unit to be installed. If you are experiencing a power outage, the battery back-up will provide emergency power to your NBN ™ connection box for up to approximately five hours.
