Our particular build consists of an A800 with 24 x 1.92TB NVMe SSDs with two four-port 32Gb FC ports connected per controller (8 ports total) with ONTAP 9.5RC1 installed. CIFS/SMB ESX The NetApp AFF A800 is a 4U array that has a very similar look to the rest in the AFF series.
Each NetApp FAS8200 Storage Controller contains 1 Intel Xeon D-1587 processor with 16 cores at 1.70 GHz. Each client contains 1 Intel Xeon x5675 processor with 6 cores at 3.06GHz. Each storage controller has main memory that is used for the operating system and caching filesystem data.
This makes the AFF A800 a great system for engineering and design applications as well as DevOps. It is particularly well-suited for chip development and software builds that are typically high file-count environments with high meta-data traffic. A single NetApp AFF A800 system is a single chassis with 2 controllers and 48 drive slots.
Due to this behavior, ONTAP is not affected by either the Spectre or Meltdown vulnerabilities. The same is true of all ONTAP variants including both ONTAP running on FAS/AFF hardware as well as virtualized ONTAP products such as ONTAP Select and ONTAP Cloud.
