OARTEC began as a side project of former Australian national team rower Matt Roach, who represented Australia at World Championship level in the men’s heavyweight eights and fours during the 1990’s. The OARTEC DX has a very smooth and fluid dynamic rowing action that is more enjoyable to row and has the closest feeling to rowing on the water.
The RowPerfect, the OARTEC DX and the C2 on sliders all have a chain driven air resistance fly wheel with some sort of a spring tension return. The mechanism is very simple. On the C2 dynamic, there is a complex arrangement of ropes, pulleys chains and springs to allow both the footrest and handle to “float”, but be linked together.
The OARTEC and the RowPerfect are in between, with a moving mass of 42 pounds. The implication is that the leading edge of the force curve is sharpest on the C2 Dynamic, and shallowest for a C2 on slides. What does mean in terms of feel?
The OARTEC DX and RP3 are both top of the range rowing machines however the price difference being nearly double for the RP3 may make the DX the more obvious choice, particularly if you don’t row on the water and are just using it for training and fitness purposes.
The Dynamic Indoor Rower offers the closest simulation to rowing on the water and was developed to meet the specific training needs of the competitive rowing athlete. Unlike the Model D and E Indoor Rowers, the footrest on the Dynamic is free to move and there’s minimal movement of body mass throughout the stroke.
