The Oberheim Two Voice Pro has an interesting back story. It all started with Tom Oberheim's original SEM (Synthesizer Expander Module), a surprisingly powerful beast with two oscillators, two envelopes (one each for filter and volume), an LFO, pulse width modulation, and a gorgeous-sounding multimode filter with a unique sweep mode.

In 1976, it seems, Oberheim built a dedicated case for their Two-Voice. The 3-octave 37-note (C-C) duophonic keyboard was originally (in the first 100 or so) a Pratt-Reed keyboard similar in design and function to the one found on the ARP 2600. That is right. I love the oberheim matrix 1000. I've owned one since my late teens. If Xpander is more of the goodness of the matrix 1000 including the nice interface & sound i can only imagine how much value this machine would add. BTW i do have a prophet rev2, which i love. The rev2 doesn't have the same mystical mojo i'm used to with Oberheim.

Their standard electronics are not very reliable and both have power supply issues. So much so that I decided to redesign the power supply in both synths, but it's the AX-60 that benefits from it the most. If you have the standard power supply please don't adjust it …

After a second bankruptcy in early 1988, Gibson Guitar Corporation, a larger musical instrument manufacturer (who, incidentally, also owned the Maestro brand), acquired Oberheim.
The OB-1 was later replaced by the OB-X and OB-Xa, which abandoned the relatively bulky SEMs in favor of individual or compact voice cards, and common cabinetry and power supplies. Oberheim introduced the Xpander in 1984, and further developed that product line with the Matrix-6 and the Matrix-12.
