Nov 05, 2018 . At star parties, we tie the telescope tripod to the ground with bungee cords and a dog anchor. A cover from AstroGizmos provides protection from the elements. For storage, we use a 3-person dome tent staked to the ground at its base. Guy wires to attachment points half way up the tent keep it from deforming excessively in high winds.

The Observatories forum should have something about portable observatories. I think an observatory for your astronomical equipment and a separate tent to live in would be a better solution. Everything needs to be tied securely to the ground. We have experienced thunder storms strong enough to bend tent poles.
