There are some recommended minimum headroom requirements for overhead garage doors. Whatever you do, do not go below this as you will have a problem. It is safe to say that for most residential garages, the headroom should range from 9 to 15 inches as a minimum, depending on the type of garage door you choose.
Installing Your Garage Door Place the first panel in the doorway. Assemble the vertical, horizontal, and curved parts of the track per the manufacturer's instructions. Install the vertical track by sliding the rollers on the first panel onto the end of the track and then lowering it into place.
