The machine is currently at the Olympia-Express factory in Schwanden, Switzerland where, on request, the front steel panel and boiler cap have been replaced to prepare it for sale. The machine functions (and has always functioned) perfectly. That said, it is a manual lever machine and some practice is required to obtain proper shots.

Francesco refers to the rectangular Cremina most recognize as "version 2.0". Prior to the Cremina version 2.0 in 1967, Olympia Express had already been in existence, creating commercial machines. Indeed the Olympia Express story is hard to uncover due to ownership changes (and possibly a fire at the factory destroying early documentation?).

50 years of perfection. The Cremina is a classic lever-operated espresso machine; no ifs, no buts. It works with the proven pre-infusion piston system: lifting the lever draws a small amount of water into the piston chamber and forces it into the pressed ground coffee, allowing it to expand.
The electric boiler, made of chrome steel is filled by opening the top and has a capacity of 3.8 pints—enough for 20 cups of classic espresso. The high performance tubular heating element has a thermal protection against overheating of the boiler. In order to guarantee a perfect result and longevity, the high-tech gaskets used in the Cremina.
Even your ears will be delighted: the only noise produced by your Cremina is the singing, when the boiler heats the water. «I bought my Olympia Cremina at Zabar’s in New York 26 years ago, and it has worked perfectly ever since then.
