ITINGNNOvA EDuCATION AND EDuCATING FOR INNOvATION: THE POWER OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AND SKILLS © OECD 20163 FOREWORD Foreword D igital technologies have a profound impact on economies and societies and are changing the way we work, communicate, engage in social activities and enjoy ourselves.
IT innovation is happening at quantum speed. Your new phone is able to unlock by looking at your face. Your music app can create a playlist based on the music you’ve liked before. These are cool and convenient innovations, but they also represent huge technological advances.

Innovation doesn’t happen in a vacuum, but requires openness and interactions between systems and their environments. This is also very much the case for education. Schools cannot be left alone to make the difficult process of transformation, but need support not only through policies, but also from other actors and stakeholders.
