Modern PABX systems make use of IP-based phones, and companies providing these services often base their entire functionality around internet connection, removing the need for installing phone lines altogether.
There are many ways to build an IP PBX/PABX system. The two most common are: Start from the ground up. The better and more affordable option for this case is to go for a hosted IP-based PBX system. Upgrade existing traditional (landline) telephone systems. Integrate existing phone numbers and hardware via a SIP trunk provider.
Without getting too much into the technicalities, PABX systems, in their most basic version, make use of extension numbers, which are assigned to each individual phone in a given office.
PABX (VoIP) Private Automated Branch Exchange (PABX) is a phone switching system that widely used in offices and plants, allowing a single access number to offer multiple lines to outside callers while providing a range of external lines to internal callers or staff.
A Private Branch Exchange is a telephone network owned, administered, and used within an organization. In traditional PBX systems, human operators manage the switchboards used in telephone exchanges. Switchboard operators use their hands to plug wires to close a call circuit.
The following basic functions and advanced features are available in most PABX systems: Auto Attendant (Digital Receptionist): Automatically connects callers to the target extension number. It uses a simple menu. Automatic Ring Back: Enables users to pre-dial a busy phone line and receive a ring back as soon as the line is free.
