The tiny round portable house comes with solid walls engineered for longtime durability. It can be assembled and disassembled in hours. Even better, each Yurt Cabin comes with features that you'll never find in a standard traditional yurt, such as double-hung glass windows, insulation, and integrated flooring.
The time spent to install a Pacific Yurt will vary depending on your site, local conditions, number of people and which features the yurt has. Most times a smaller yurt is set up in a few hours, while a large yurt may take a weekend to install. It is best not to set a time limit for yourself and just follow the set up instructions provided.
The Pacific Yurt is designed so that the side cover extends below the interior floor level and anchors to the platform. This seals the yurt to the platform to keep out water and critters. Do I need a sub floor? In many cases, the circular platform itself is used as the sub floor and finished floor in the yurt.
The yurt platform has two major components in it – the floor itself and the bender board that wraps around the floor and provides an attachment point for the yurt frame and fabric. The exact diameter of the platform needs to be the size of the yurt before the bender board is installed.
Every Shelter Designs yurt needs to have a precisely built, round platform constructed for the yurt to sit on and anchor to. Most people choose to have their platform raised above the ground, though occasionally we do see people pour a round slab on grade.
The outside of the bender board needs to extend down to completely cover the deck framing and should be painted to withstand weather exposure. The exterior fabric wall of the yurt will extend down a few inches past the interior floor level, so make sure the bottom of the bender board is well protected from the elements.
