It is located in an area in No.California where the summers are quite warm and the winters are very wet. We have the largest floor plan of Pacific yurts and find that our wood burning stove is ample for heating.

The time spent to install a Pacific Yurt will vary depending on your site, local conditions, number of people and which features the yurt has. Most times a smaller yurt is set up in a few hours, while a large yurt may take a weekend to install. It is best not to set a time limit for yourself and just follow the set up instructions provided.
The yurt really needs little of the upkeep that other structures need. Even the huge snowfalls we get just slide off the roof, while our neighbors are shoveling off their roofs. What kind of security does a yurt offer?
When it opened for business in 1978, it became the first modern yurt company in the world. Its standard prefab yurt packages are suitable for mild climates and feature architectural fabrics engineered to meet structural and performance requirements typically reserved for building materials.
The yurt platform has two major components in it – the floor itself and the bender board that wraps around the floor and provides an attachment point for the yurt frame and fabric. The exact diameter of the platform needs to be the size of the yurt before the bender board is installed.
Every Shelter Designs yurt needs to have a precisely built, round platform constructed for the yurt to sit on and anchor to. Most people choose to have their platform raised above the ground, though occasionally we do see people pour a round slab on grade.
The Coxes’ fabric yurt plans are designed for year-round habitation and use modern materials. However, the plans have not been updated since their original release and will not resemble recent designs produced by yurt companies.
