It provides a punchy tone with a relatively fast note decay, but this is compensated by its richness of overtones and aural depth. Pau Ferro

I have been privileged to acquire a wood named PADAUK, which is deep red/orange in color. In fact, it is being used as shipping crate material. Most of the boards are 1/2" x 6" x 5', and several are 2" x 2" x 6'.
PADAUK turns a deep-brown color with only hints of its red-orange core. Even finish barely slows the color change. Ask your hardwood dealer for Chakte Viga ( Caesalpinia platyloba ). Though it, too, will darken over time, this Latin American wood retains its red-orange color longer than PADAUK.
