About Us. Alv Elvestad, along with his wife, Linda started Pakboats in 1984, primarily to distribute folding canoes imported from Norway. Alv’s involvement with folding boats started a few years earlier. Pakboats has adapted Scotty’s standard Mount Board so it will clamp securely to the gunwales on Puffins and PakCanoes. The Mount Board accepts three of Scotty’s accessories in any combination. You can have three fishing rods. You can have just one or two rods and a cup holder and/or GPS.

There are two types of Pakboats folding kayaks … the Puffins and the Quest. Their designs fit the varying needs of a variety of paddlers. For example, the shorter Puffins are excellent for fishing. The longer Quest kayaks are built for touring.
The combination of frame and inflatable tubes make a much more compact structure than air alone, and a Pakboat has much more interior space than a similar size inflatable canoe or kayak. The unique Pakboats structures are also much lighter and pack smaller. Similar size inflatables weigh about 50% more than a Pakboat.
