Canoes and kayaks that you can pack for travel are generally folding or inflatable. Both have their special advantages, and Pakboats combine the best features of both. In each Pakboat, a complete aluminum frame provides efficient lines and rigidity, while inflatable tubes provide tensioning and flotation.

There are two types of Pakboats folding kayaks … the Puffins and the Quest. Their designs fit the varying needs of a variety of paddlers. For example, the shorter Puffins are excellent for fishing. The longer Quest kayaks are built for touring. The Puffin Saranac can be paddled as a tandem kayak.
Pakboats ride on top of a car just as easily as hard kayaks, but their lighter weight makes it easier to get them up there. Paddling performance is similar to hard kayaks (and much better than inflatables), except that the light weight makes a Pakboat more responsive.
The 12 ft length and efficient shape makes the Puffin Saco easy to paddle, yet its packed size is incredibly compact and its weight is only 20 pounds. The Saco has a very functional self supporting deck with a large cockpit that makes it easy to get in and out of the boat.
The boat can be paddled by one or two people and has enough cargo capacity to carry two people and equipment for a two or more week expedition. Due to the narrower design of the 165 in the standard version is comfortable for solo paddling.
