Apr 23, 2017 . The Pakon offers a max resolution of 3000x2000 which roughly equals 2100 dpi. This enables you to print 8x10" at 300 dpi. I prepared some examples from both scanners to highlight the differences between the two.

The JPEG file size is approximately 2.25MB per frame from a 6×6 negative. For B&W film, we scan as 8-bit grayscale @ 1800 dpi. 4×5 Sheet film is scanned at 1200 dpi, creating a 5400×4200 pixel image. The Pakon scanner creates an output file of 3000×2000, “16 base”, equivalent to a 6MP digital camera capture. Don’t let the size fool you.

Nevertheless, the Pakon is the better scanner for 35mm, because of the way superior sharpness, color scans and speed. The V600, being a flatbed, is also able to scan 120, which it does quite well. I've kept that scanner mainly because I also need to scan my Medium Format film.
Second, Pakon scanners are designed for a minimum of human intervention. Despite the availability of an SDK for this scanner, the proprietary PSI software is the only fully finished piece that will run this scanner. This software, by the way, is brilliant in its simplicity.
The films lighting source now uses a LED based system instead of the 50-watt SoLux halogen type bulb of Pakon's F235 series scanners that need to be replaced periodically. The unit weighs 4kg and dimensions are at 317 x 343 x 406mm.
Pakon, Inc. was based in Minnetonka, Minnesota in the United States. It was formed in the mid-1980's from the previous company known as Pako, which for more than half a century was known as a supplier of photographic slide mounts and mounting equipment primarily for the photofinishing / minilab market.
The Pakon F135 Plus is a 35mm film scanner. The original version was available in 2004, the plus version was released in 2006. The plus can scan at a higher 3000 x 2000 while the original version can only scan to 1500 X 2250. Pakon, Inc. was based in Minnetonka, Minnesota in the United States.
The Epson Perfection V600 is a good entry point for those looking for a high-end photo scanner that can handle film negatives and slides, but don't want to spend the exorbitant price that is usually required for such a device.

This comparison truly illustrates the huge difference between the two scans. Whilst the Epson scan has the upper hand when it comes to flatness, the Pakon absolutely destroys it in terms of sharpness. This becomes especially evident in the thin railing.
