Starts on Panhandle Trail, then follow the signs for Fossils Cliff. The cliff is a shale outcropping, and fossil hunting consists of checking the debris that falls off into a heap at the bottom of the cliff. We found a few ferns, they are black like coal. I've heard that more interesting items have been found, to include a frog.

The trail’s rolling elevation catches views of the mountain’s unique natural ecosystems from a long wooden platform, arcs over the marshy shoreline of Alexander Lake on a raised boardwalk, runs a causeway between the Upper and Lower Alexander Lakes, and trails through a historic barn over the course of 5 miles.
A paved trail is open for biking, roller blading, jogging and dog-walking, while forested fitness trails are open for hiking and running. Panola Mountain is a 100-acre granite outcrop similar to Stone Mountain, but smaller and much more pristine.
