The main difference between CMYK and Pantone printing is the level of accuracy. The Pantone process is more consistent and able to produce colors closer in shade to the ones seen in the digital design stage. However, it is also more costly than CMYK in most cases, especially if the print job is small.
When working on-screen, all colors, including Pantone colors, are shown in a Red, Green, Blue (RGB) color. In a CRT monitor like the image here, each pixel is a set of a red, green, and blue light that turns on at varying levels of brightness to visually mix and produce a color.
The Pantone color numbers consist of a three- or four-digit number followed by the letter C, U or M, which stands for "coated," "uncoated" and "matte," respectively. The color palette in the PMS consists of about 1,114 colors.
Vibrant Orange (Pantone) has the hex code #FF7420. The equivalent RGB values are (255, 116, 32), which means it is composed of 63% red, 29% green and 8% blue. The CMYK color codes, used in printers, are C:0 M:55 Y:88 K:0. In the HSV/HSB scale, Vibrant Orange (Pantone) has a hue of 23°, 87% saturation and a brightness value of 100%.
