Perfect for your vehicle and... The parking brake is a mechanical system designed to hold the vehicle stationary when parked. Although often referred to as emergency brakes, parking brakes usually only act on the rear wheels, and their use in an attempt to stop a vehicle at speed could result in skidding and loss of vehicle control.
When the driver operates the switch, it sends a command to Electronic Brake Module which senses that parking brakes are required to be operated. Later, this module commands the actuators or electric motors installed in the brake calipers to operate. Thus, brake pads are forced on the disc thereby restricting the movement of wheels.
Depressing the foot pedal would engage the brake and pressing it again will release it. A pull handle variation also exists; by pulling or releasing the handle, this engages and releases the parking brake, respectively. Many vehicles have a combination of the two; a pedal to engage the brake and a handle to release it.
Electronic parking brakes can be set by the driver, but they may also automatically apply when the vehicle is placed in Park or turned off. Parking brake systems often suffer more problems from lack of use, especially on vehicles with automatic transmissions.
The main components of a disc brake are: The brake pads. The caliper, which contains a piston. The rotor, which is mounted to the hub.
The parking brake is mechanically operated by a cable system. It is independent of the "regular" brakes except in one aspect, the parking brake uses the inside of the hub assembly on the rear rotors as the braking surface.
The parking brake works in most cases by a cable operated from a hand or foot lever in the cab that is connected to the rear wheel brake system. The brake shoes connect to a lever that is engaged by the park brake lever or foot pedal.
