The typical parking brake has fewer components than the main brake system. They include variations of the following: A lever to engage and disengage the parking brake, found within the cabin of the vehicle Steel cables to connect to the main brakes of the vehicle located in the rear, often called a parking brake equalizer
Steel cables to connect to the main brakes of the vehicle located in the rear, often called a parking brake equalizer The cable system features a “Y” design that allows a set of cables to be connected to each rear brake. A separate cable attaches to the equalizer or “Y” connection and the lever inside the vehicle.

Sometimes, people also refer to this system as 'Electronic Parking Brake'. Technically this system is a sub-part of 'Brake by Wire' system. The main function of parking brakes is to avoid motion of vehicle when parked. In addition, these brakes also play an important role in avoiding backward motion of vehicle which resumes moving on a slope.
The seized wheel should be removed so that the brake is visible. Gently tapping the brake with a hammer helps remove any adhesions. The cable may need to be replaced because the parking brake can become stuck due to a faulty cable or faulty calipers. The cable can rust and wear down over time.
The parking brake works in most cases by a cable operated from a hand or foot lever in the cab that is connected to the rear wheel brake system. The brake shoes connect to a lever that is engaged by the park brake lever or foot pedal.
