Oct 24, 2013 . K-3 Focus Peaking. Oct 23, 2013. From the manual, it looks like you cannot assign focus peaking to any button like with my K-01. That's a feature I wish they had included on the K-3. Also, you have to switch the movie/stills lever to record movies, so why the record button? You just hit the shutter button as per the K-5.

Jul 10, 2015 . I would imagine the K-3 has some improvement in focus peaking, but probably is pretty similar in use. You activate focus peaking in the menu and it stays on. I have not had any problems using focus peaking with any lens or with any distances.

Jul 21, 2014 . Focus assist digitally zooms the image, so yes it will be soft - not much can be done about that. That is exactly what I said about Pentax, which interpolates the small files generated for LCD display and enlarges it for focus assisting. While the digital zoom on NEX is much much better.

The price of Pentax K3-III is set to be much higher than an entry level FF camera and be the top of APS-C cameras. This is the only shortcoming in my view. Let's hope that it will not be another K-01. K-01 at that time was just expensive (eg compare to Sony Nex-5) giving what it could do.

Jul 06, 2014 . More interesting for videographers is that the Pentax K3 doesn’t have continuous focus in movie-mode. You’ll have to focus manually, and that’s often tricky. That’s still the case for quite a few competitors though. The K3 does have focus-peaking, which emphasises micro-contrast for easier focussing, and this does help a lot in movie mode.

The KP debuts a new, optional focus peaking mode called "extract edge". In this mode, in-focus edges remain highlighted in while, but everything else in the scene is simply hidden and replaced by a flat grey color.
Not only does the Pentax K-3 feature significant changes inside and out, it also includes an industry first: on-demand low-pass filtering which lets you choose whether ultimate resolution or resistance to moiré are more important for any given shot.
Catch-in-focus is also supported with manual lenses or any lens with an AF/MF switch. When it comes to precision focusing, however, nothing beats live view. To this end, the KP features focus peaking and magnification. When enabled, focus peaking adds white outlines around objects that are in focus.
This is currently the highest number of AF points in any Pentax APS-C camera; the only Pentax model with more points is the full frame K-1 with its 33 points . It shows that at least as far as focusing does, the KP is as good as the flagship line, and is thus set apart from lower models such as the K-70.
It is now May 2015, one year after the review. $750 for the body and $980 for the body with the 18-135mm lens. These are great times to be buying a camera. Great, comprehensive camera review. I've written about my experience testing the Pentax K3 in the field as a professional photographer, and also compared it to the Nikon D600/D610 camera.
Like the K-5 IIs the camera has no anti-aliasing filter; this improves resolution, but with the trade-off of an increased risk of moiré. Pentax is using the K-3's sensor-shift IS system to simulate the effect of having the filter.
While it faces stiff competition for the title of best APS-C DSLR from the likes of the Canon EOS 70D, the Nikon D7200 and the Sony Alpha 77 II, does the K-3 II hold a place as the best all-rounder? The Pentax K-3 II features an APS-C-size 24.35-million-pixel CMOS sensor – the same as that of the original Pentax K-3.
In the K-3 II, Pentax has taken it one step further and ensured the GPS tracker works with a feature called Astrotracer. If you’ve ever tried to take a long-exposure shot of the night sky, you’ll have likely come up against the stars blurring in an arc due to the Earth’s rotation.
