Pickle castors are glass jars (in pattern glass and colored art glass) fitted in an elaborately designed silver-plated frame and matching silver-plated lid. Some castors also have matching silver-plated tongs or pickle fork. They were used to serve pickles and other pickled vegetables and fruits.
Table Setting Guide. For additional strength, the second and third tines of the salad fork are occasionally connected by a rod. The salad fork is used in formal and informal dining. It is also used for appetizer courses other than seafood, such as pate.
Victorian spot-optic and enamel-decorated pickle castor, amberina with polychrome-enamel decoration, ovoid-form insert with cherries decoration, fitted into a quadruple-plated stand marked for “MERIDEN” and numbered “283,”with tongs and cover.
