Frequently Asked Questions

  • What types of pipe markers do you offer?

We offer a large assortment of ready-made and customizable self-adhesive, snap-around, roll-form, and high-performance markers, plus many more. Visit our Pipe Markers Buying Guide, or use our Pipe Marker Finder below to identify the pipe markers that match your specific applications.

  • How many arrows are in a roll of pipe markers?

Each Pipe Label roll consists of 50 markers with 50 detachable arrows. PipeMarker.com's specially formulated adhesive is applied with a heavy coating to ensure adhesion to a variety of surfaces. Apply Pipe ID labels ONLY to clean and dry surfaces. System 2 Pipe Markers comply with ANSI and ASME A13.1 2015 standards.

  • How many labels are on a roll of gas pipe markers?

Our Natural Gas Markers come on a roll and are available with a choice of common legends. Our rolls have 100 labels each. Pipe Identification Labels for small pipes are ideal for 3/8 in. to 1 inch diameter pipes. Each roll of Pipe Markers for Small Pipes contains 100 Pipe Labels that will wrap completely around the pipe.

  • How do you use markers on ammonia pipes?

Markers conform to ANSI specifications. Pre-coiled vinyl markers simply uncoil and snap it into place around your pipes containing ammonia without adhesive or tapes necessary. Install on dirty, greasy or rough surfaces. Larger diameter piping require strap-around markers that include nylon ties for install.

  • What do the different colored pipe markers mean?

These pipe markers help communicate information about the contents of pipes and any potential hazards associated with those contents. Six colors are assigned to pipe contents (yellow, red, orange, green, blue and brown), and you can see what those colors represent in the chart below.

  • What is the difference between ANSI and ASME Pipe marking?

ANSI and ASME, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, released updated pipe marking recommendations, ANSI/ASME A13.1, in 2007, and that is the current industry consensus standard. That means that ANSI has a newer, more detailed set of pipe marking guidelines than OSHA.

  • Is Pipe marking hard to mark?

That’s because pipe marking regulations aren’t universally adopted by the various standards agencies. Despite this fact, pipe marking doesn’t need to be terribly difficult because you can follow one set of requirements that will help you satisfy all of the others: ANSI/ASME A13.1.

  • What is the OSHA standard for Pipe marking?

The reason pipe marking is a little less straightforward is because OSHA’s standard on the issue, 29 CFR 1910.261 (a) (3) (ii), only states: Scheme for the Identification of Piping Systems, A13.1 – 1956. OSHA references the standard from ANSI, the American National Standards Institute, but it doesn’t refer to the most current version.
