Google's Project Fi service is currently available on the Google Pixel 2, Google Pixel 2 XL, Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Moto X4, as well as the older Nexus 6, Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P flagship devices. The latest phones to join the party are the Moto G6, LG G7 ThinQ and the LG V35 ThinQ.
Google's Project Fi mobile virtual network operates on the back of Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular's LTE networks. Project Fi is the name of Google's network that offers mobile data directly to users, much like every other carrier that's available to choose between.
Like other mobile virtual network operators, or MVNOs, Project Fi relies on another carrier’s network to provide cellular coverage. In Project Fi’s case, a trio of carriers are used — Sprint, T-Mobile and regional carrier US Cellular.
While Google Fi customers have access to the third best 4G LTE coverage, they also have access to the current leader in the 5G race. T-Mobile’s 5G coverage map shows a network covering over 40% of the country.
Google Fi is a bit unique in that it’ll allow your phone to switch from different networks via the Google Fi app. However, this feature only works with phones designed specifically for Google Fi service. Considering that Google is in the name, you’d be absolutely right if you guessed that Google Fi phones are Android phones.
You can keep track of your tethering and hotspot data usage. Here's how: Open the Google Fi app or website. Go to the Account tab. At the top of the screen, you'll see your current data use.
