Jun 30, 2019 . Basically, a wire fed at the end presents an impedance between 2,700 and 3,000 Ohms. To match the impedance a typical radio requires (50 Ohms) you need a way to transform or match the impedance. Typically a 49:1 or 64:1 transformer will put you in the operating range sweet spot needed when you use the appropriate length of antenna wire.

As mentioned on the QRPGuys site, the kit is based off of a design by Joe Everhart (N2CX)—an antenna setup he used extensively during the 2017 National Parks on the Air program. His full article can be read on the July 2017 issue of QRP Quarterly .

Crystal controlled kits come with crystals for 7023 kHz, but can be changed by the builder for any other 40 Meter crystal. Pixie requires one crystal, Frog needs two, and the Super RockMite needs three, all the same freq. Frog QRP Kit.
