Heinrich Hertz proved the existence of radio waves in the late 1880s. He used a spark gap attached to an induction coil and a separate spark gap on a receiving antenna.
Tuning into an exact frequency is like knocking on your friend’s door. One thing that makes shortwave radios a little confusing, is that the frequency ranges available can differ depending on the devices you have. That’s pretty normal, and it happens because design differences alter the way that radio picks up frequencies.
Radio wave. Radio-wave communications signals travel through the air in a straight line, reflect off of clouds or layers of the ionosphere, or are relayed by satellites in space. They are used in standard broadcast radio and television, shortwave radio, navigation and air-traffic control, cellular telephony, and even remote-controlled toys.
What are Radio Waves Radio waves are the waves that are a sort of electromagnetic radiation and have a recurrence with the longest frequency of radio waves from high 300 GHz to low as 3 kHz; however, someplace it is characterized as over 3 GHz as microwaves. At 300 GHz, the frequency of radio waves is 1 mm, and at 3 kHz is 100 km.
Astronomical sources Outer space is teeming with sources of radio waves: planets, stars, gas and dust clouds, galaxies, pulsars and even black holes. By studying these, astronomers can learn about the motion and chemical composition of these cosmic sources as well as the processes that cause these emissions.
Biological and environmental effects. Looking into a source of radio waves at close range, such as the waveguide of a working radio transmitter, can cause damage to the lens of the eye by heating. A strong enough beam of radio waves can penetrate the eye and heat the lens enough to cause cataracts.
RADIO EMISSIONS IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM. Astronomical objects that have a changing magnetic field can produce radio waves. The radio astronomy instrument called WAVES on the WIND spacecraft recorded a day of bursts of radio waves from the Sun's corona and planets in our solar system.
