Frequently Asked Questions

  • How will the data be written in RAID 0 ?

In Raid 0 (Striping) the data will be written to disk using shared method. Half of the content will be in one disk and another half will be written to other disk.

  • How do you calculate read and write IOPS in RAID 10?

So an eight spindle RAID 10 array would be N = 8 and X = 125 and our resulting calculation comes out to be (8 * 125)/2 which is 500 WIOPS or 4X WIOPS. A 50/50 blend would result in 750 Blended IOPS (1,000 Read IOPS and 500 Write IOPS.)

  • How many disks are required to create a RAID 6?

Minimum 4 numbers of disks are required to create a RAID 6. If you want to add more disks, you can, but you must have dedicated raid controller. In software RAID, we will won’t get better performance in RAID 6. So we need a physical RAID controller. Those who are new to RAID setup, we recommend to go through RAID articles below.

  • What is a RAID 1 device?

RAID 1. RAID 1 (also called SAFE mode in some LaCie devices) is a secure RAID mode that requires at least 2 drives. and works with pairs of drives. One logical volume mounts on the computer and the combined available capacity of both drives is limited to the capacity of the lowest-capacity disk.

  • What RAID controller does the Cisco UCS B440 server have?

The Cisco UCS B440 servers have the LSI MegaRAID controller (the model varies by server). Depending on the license key installed, these controllers provide RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10 support for up to four SAS or SATA drives. The Cisco B200 M3 servers have an LSI SAS 2004 RAID controller on the motherboard.

  • How do I remove previous RAID configuration information from a disk?

To make sure that any previous RAID configuration information is removed from a disk, apply a scrub policy that removes all disk information after you apply the No RAID configuration mode. If checked, the server retains the configuration in the local disk configuration policy even if the server is disassociated from the service profile.

  • What type of RAID controller does the Cisco B200 m3 server have?

The Cisco B200 M3 servers have an LSI SAS 2004 RAID controller on the motherboard. The controller supports RAID 0 and 1 for up to two SAS or two SATA drives. Note If you ever need to move a RAID cluster from one server to another, both the old and new servers for the cluster must use the same LSI controller.

  • What is the difference between RAID 6 and RAID 6 disk spanning?

RAID 6 uses distributed parity and disk striping also but adds a second set of parity data so that it can survive up to two drive failures. Note Parity is distributed across all drives in the drive group. Disk spanning allows multiple drives to function like one big drive.
