The dial was specially divided into 24 hours so that the wearer could always tell the exact time even beyond the polar circle, where there is no distinction between day and night.

Over the years, the Petrodvorets Watch Factory has produced more than two dozen versions of Raketa movements. Some have been equipped with features such as automatic winding, calendars, 24-hour models for polar explorers, anti-magnetic watches (for use in case of a nuclear attack), as well as watches for the military.
The old Raketa caliber 2609 was a beautful, classically constructed mens’ size movement. It contained a directly driven center second hand and also a directly driven center minute indication. The real speciality of that movement is the gold-toned screw balance with its breguet-type hairspring.
The first model, Raketa-1, was built by Krasnoye Sormovo (Красное Сормово) shipbuilding plant in Sormovo, Nizhny Novgorod (Нижний Новгород). On its maiden voyage, on 25 August 1957, it carried 30 passengers from Nizhny Novgorod to Kazan (420 km) in seven hours.
Both of the vessels has a MAN 2842 LYE. The highest speeds are from 29 to 32 knots. During the renovation the steering was changed from the back side to the front. The Lithuanian remaining Raketa has been operated by the UAB "Nemuno linija" line from the Kaunas passenger dock to Nida until 2010.
