Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I use the runas command?

You can use the runas command to start any program, MMC console, or Control Panel item. As long as you provide the appropriate user account and password information, the user account has the ability to log on to the computer, and the program, MMC console, or Control Panel item is available on the system and to the user account.

  • How does Runas /netonly work?

When you start a program with RunAs /netonly, the program will execute on your local computer as the user you are currently logged on as, but any connections to other computers on the network will be made using the user account specified.

  • Does Runas require the user profile to be loaded?

However, the runas command also contains a /noprofile switch that bypasses the loading of the user profile, so that behavior should not be relied upon. User GPO is only processed for users who log on interactively to their own desktops by using the logon user interface.

  • Why does Runas require a backslash to escape?

The RUNAS command unlike most other CMD and DOS commands requires that it’s command line is quoted, it uses the regular C runtime library command line parser. This also means that RUNAS requires the backslash as an escape character, not the standard ^ escape used by other CMD commands.

  • What is encryptencrypted Runas?

Encrypted RunAs gets round this problem by creating encrypted shortcuts to programs that needs to be run with different user credentials, so the password does not need to be given to the user. ERunAs uses >128 bit encryption for the shortcuts, the password is encrypted twice using information located on the computer/domain.

  • Is it possible to run Runas with password?

Runas with password, to run application as administrator from standard user, is possible with alternative runas tools. Test and difference of runas, cpau, steel run as, encrypted run as, su run, runasspc, secure runner,... A lot of runas alternatives accept a password as argument to run software with administrator rights from a user account.

  • How do I configure runasrob to encrypt files with administrator authentication?

Start RunasRob.exe and press enter to open the configuration window for encrypted files. Enter the administrator authentication you want to use for it by fill out the authentication fields.

  • Is runasspc compatible with encrypted files?

RunAsSpc is compatible with the most file endings like *.exe,*.msi,*.bat,*.cmd,*.wsh,*.vbs, *.msc... Encrypted files are using AES 256 Bit. UNC Path is supported. Mapped drives not. The encrypted file can be store on a mapped drive but not the application. RunAsSpc, cryptfile and the application can be store on different folders.
