RBP plans can steers patients toward a trusted, local provider by waiving member cost share if employees use that provider. This provides a solution for physicians’ desire to increase market share within their community and grow their business. Value is not found in complex relationships of three (employer, insurer, and physician).
A study in the February issue of the Journal of Managed Care found that while few employers are using RBP benefit designs, there is broad awareness of its potential for delivering savings, said the authors, from Harvard University and Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Some medical providers may demand payment at the point of service. Alternate providers and one-time payments can be applied to mitigate disruption. Reference Based Pricing.
