• What is the standard timing for a petrol engine?

  The DLE manual makes no reference to WHERE they are measuring the 46Deg from, as a reference. Pretty much ANY petrol engine will have a standard timing that WORKS efficiently, in most conditions, of around 28-30Deg BTDC.

• Is the engine timing set at 46deg BTDC?

  If you found the DLE 35RA manual, or the one that I did, it is still a little misleading. They tell you that the timing is set at 46Deg BTDC, but what they fail to mention is what the datum line is you are measuring it FROM. And that makes all the difference.

• What's the correct timing for a dead center ignition?

  Dead Center (TDC). The ignition timing can be advanced or retarded ignition) or counter clockwise (45° retarding the ignition). Be sure to retighten the phillips head screws after adjusting the ignition timing. Now I have always set my timing at 28* or so BTC.....what gives ?

• What should the port timing be on a 2 stroke engine?

  Its a bit aggressive in my opinion for a gas engine, but the port timing of a 2 stroke has a lot to due with it. Retarding the timing below 45°, you would have to relocate the prop hub, the pickup, or magnet. Obviously this is what DLE has designed into that engine based on R&D. Use a good quality / grade of gas, or what DLE recommends.
