Bathtubs, like all home appliances, must be built according to certain Safety and durability standards in order to protect the consumer. Every walk-in tub product you shop for should carry certification from the CSA/UL, American Standards Association, and other certifications of compliance with Safety measures.
Enter your Safety Tub ® walk-in bath, close the door, place handle in down position, and fill the bath to at least 2 inches above the highest jet before activating the whirlpool pump (if equipped). Do not apply excessive pressure when placing the handle in the close position. Do not put weight on the door when entering and exiting the tub.
Read all instructions before installing tub. MTI recommends using a professional installer for this product. Installer/product owner is responsible for complying with all state and local codes. This tub was water tested at the factory and found to be fully operational and leak-free prior to shipping.
Level and secure the walk-in tub - Use your four foot level along the top front of the tub and install wood shims as needed to level the unit from right to left. Then use the torpedo level on an end ledge, or the four foot level if it will fit, to level the tub from front to back. Again, install shims as needed.
The average cost of a standard walk-in tub installed is around $5,000-$7,000. For a tub installed with options such as hydrotherapy, the cost rises to around $10,000.
Walk-in bathtubs are generally not covered by Medicare because they are not considered "durable medical equipment". Unlike hospital beds, wheelchairs, catheters, blood glucose monitors or nebulizers, a walk in bathtub can be used by anyone.
