There are a range of methods of keeping your shed door securely closed. These range from the simple and effective door bolt to multipoint locking doors. In my view one of the most effective locking systems for shed doors is the long throw door lock.

Shed door plans. As we have already said, the easiest way to build a shed door from scratch is to use a piece of 5/8 grooved plywood and several wooden trims. Measure the door opening and cut the plywood, using a saw with a sharp blade. Top Tip: Attach the 1×4 trims along the edges of the plywood, using 1 1/4” nails.
Install the three hinges on the proper side of your new door. You should install the hinges so that they line up evenly to where the hinges that were installed on the old shed door were. If the hinges are particularly thick, you may need to use a chisel to chisel out a small area before screwing your hinges into place.
The dimensions of the door will depend on the size of shed that you are building but shed doors do tend to be a bit smaller than your average house door. For example a typical door to a shed might have an opening two feet seven inches wide and six feet high.
