How much ground basil equals fresh basil leaves? The usual substitution is 1 teaspoon dried (chopped or crumbled) dried herb in place of 1 tablespoon fresh. So you would want to use 1/3 cup of dried basil. Remember also that dried herbs are usually added to a recipe at a different point from fresh.

Basil is appealing to growers because of its consistent demand from consumers. Growers who produce basil during colder months are usually able to fetch higher prices when local outdoor crops are unavailable. In some areas of the country high end retailers sell basil for $3-$4 per ounce or $50-$60 per pound.
The $5/lb price was quoted from a health food store by the pound. However, at the same time I am selling them bags of basil (about 2-3 cups worth) with a recipe for $1.25 each. I sell mine $10-14 lbs $10 is usually with stalks and $12-$14 leaves only. $10.00lbs to resturants (leaves only)
