May 27, 2014 . I just bought a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 motherboard. Everything seems to be working fine except for one thing, SYS_FAN1. Its running on high constantly and is loud. SYS fans are either constant, or can be set to scale with overall system temperature (or sometimes CPU temp). Pump fans are normally 100% all the time to properly power the WC pump. Really, your best bet is to have a poke around in BIOS, and see what the settings are like.

Answer. Yes, but SYS_FAN1 and SYS_FAN2 are sharing same controller, you could change the SYS_FAN1 speed by BIOS or software, then SYS_FAN2 will follows settings of SYS_FAN1.

Case has 2 fans, but MOBO only has 1 SYS_FAN connection. Any suggestions? So, I'm using the Fractal Meshify C case, which has two system fans already installed: one in the front and one in the back. The ports on a mobo marked SYS_FANx are intended for use with case fans. Within the BIOS Setup screens you will find that one or both of them offer to provide control of the fans' speeds, too. (Automatic control is enabled by default usually, but you can change.)

If you leave your CPU fan header empty and plug your CPU fan into your SYS fan header instead you might get a "CPU fan error - press any key to continue" message every time you boot your computer. You'll than make a note to yourself to swap plugs next time you power down your computer.
This is a simple fix by going to BIOS and setting up a fan profile using the smart fan feature built into the BIOS. Once you have these set to the fan speeds you want, the CPU and System fans will be running a lot more quieter. Important note, do not lower the CPU cooler fan to low or you run the risk of CPU temps running to hot.
