Taber tests involve mounting a flat specimen approximately 100mm square or round to a turntable platform that rotates on a vertical axis at a fixed speed. The standard material thickness that can be evaluated with the Taber Rotary Abraser is 6.35 mm (materials greater than 6.35 mm but less than 40 mm can be tested with optional accessories).
The standard material thickness that can be evaluated with the Taber Rotary Abraser is 6.35 mm (materials greater than 6.35 mm but less than 40 mm can be tested with optional accessories). Two genuine Taber abrasive wheels, which are applied at a specific pressure, are lowered onto the specimen surface.
An optional range weight set of 3000 and 5000 Taber units is required for test ranges 7, 8 and 9. Range 1 is used with Taber's optional Sensitivity Range Attachment (also referred to as SR or High Sensitivity Attachment) to test extremely lightweight and flexible materials whose Taber Stiffness Unit value are between 0 - 1.
The product is the stiffness value of the material measured in Taber Stiffness Units. Taber Stiffness Units are defined as the bending moment of 1/5 of a gram applied to a 1 1/2" wide specimen at a 5 centimeter test length, flexing it to an angle of 15°. A Stiffness Unit is the equivalent of one gram centimeter.
Abrading wheels for the Taber Abraser (Abrader) can be classified as: Calibrase® - A resilient wheel composed of resilient binder and aluminum oxide or silicon carbide abrasive particles. Frequently used to evaluate rigid specimens.
The Rotary Platform Abrasion Tester also has the ability to perform adhesion or 'scrape' tests using a Scuffing Head Attachment in place of the abrading wheels. Mounted to the left hand abraser arm mount, one of three unique profile scuff heads are attached to the Taber Abraser such that it is held at a 100° angle.
The Taber ® Abraser (Abrader) is available in two models - single or dual specimen tables. Both offer the same durable design and can be used interchangeably. Model 1700 features a single specimen turntable.
The standard material thickness that can be evaluated with the Taber Rotary Abraser is 6.35 mm (materials greater than 6.35 mm but less than 40 mm can be tested with optional accessories).
