When you pay for your hour at HFC, you will pay $75 or $80, because tach hours accumulate slower than clock hours. How much cheaper is Tach than hobbs? Hobbs time increases as the clock moves forward. Tach time, on the other hand, moves faster or slower depending on engine RPM. So for example, while taxiing, tach time is only about 40% of Hobbs time.

Mar 23, 2011 . The Tach signal for an HEI is reasonably similar to that found in a normal points ignition, with the exception of the dwell period duty cycle. A points system has a constant 67% duty-cycle angle (30*/45*), while an HEI strives for a constant dwell time (of perhaps 4-5 mSec).

Jun 11, 2005 . The digital tach I have (on both my bikes) works by picking up pulses from the coil wire. It’s a small trail tech tach. Has only one wire. If I wrap it more than three wraps it reads erratically. Exactly three wraps around the coil wire and it’s very stable and accurate. $36 on evilbay. Does the job for me but can’t see it at night no backlight

Sep 19, 2010 . Doesn't really offer much info on speedometer bypass despite it being relatively straightforward and nothing for the dealer tach as its a fairly uncommon bit of wiring run by the PCM. I also don't like how their answer to cruise control is "I don't use it much so you should learn to deal without it too".

Jan 13, 2008 . I sold several old sun RC85 (8500 rpm) tachs, a couple of SST70 units, all with green scale indicators along with a couple of EB-9A transmitters a couple of years ago on eBay and those sold in the neighborhood of $100-$200. There is a demand for these older Sun tachs, especially the 62 409 style. L.

Jan 25, 2008 . The 6K tach on a C, A, or J code motor makes much more sense- can get much more accurate readings with the larger scale graduations on the tach, and the tach actually sweeps across most of its usable area. The 8K tach seems to be more of a prestige item, at least the tachman site seems to hint that way, given how he discusses converting 6K's to ...

Dec 24, 2015 . It wasn’t so much the tach body. It was the cable. You had to chop a good sized hole in the firewall for the cable to pass through and then you had to deal with dropping the distributor in just right so that the cable was aligned. Upstairs, you had a choice between back drive, bottom drive, or side drive tachs. If you were lucky, the big ...

So for example, while taxiing, tach time is only about 40% of Hobbs time. For pattern work, it's somewhere between 60 - 70%. For a long XC trip at 2500 RPM, tach time is close to or in some cases more than Hobbs. So the amount of money you save with tach time really depends on the type of flying you'll be doing.
“Tach” is short for tachometer, which is a compound word of Greek origin. Tacho, which is Greek for “speed”. Not to be confused with tacos, which is of Mexican and delicious origin. Metron, which is Greek for “measure”. Despite what the name may imply, the tachometer doesn’t indicate an aircraft’s flight speed.
Signing up online is the preferred method, but you can also register by calling 1-866-61TACHS or by mailing a form to the address listed at the bottom of the TACHS homepage. If you currently attend a Catholic school, the counseling office should have registration information handy as well.
