I give the fault 50% to DAC and 50% to the power amplifier inside the TACT Audio. I gave back to TACT Audio the Millemium II (with my money completely back, as agreement)because in spite of my complete trust in the future of this kind of product, I think the technology have to develop a little more to win the battle against analogical system.

An aside: A complete TACT system with 2 mains, 2 subs and their Millenium amps run much less than the $40K Steve mentioned ... more like 15,000 Euros about $20K for a full range system with DRC... The TACT is NOT a "digital amplifier". It is a powered DAC in which the signal remains digital all the way until the point it exits to the speaker terminals. Nothing is lost, nothing is added. Whoever thinks that their dac/amp combinations is better has only that in their mind!
Many SoundStage!readers have been waiting for a review of the TACT Millennium, and taking my emotional gushing in the report from last year's Frankfurt High End ’98exhibition as well as reports in other publications into account, I can't blame you. But getting a Millennium for review is not a quick process.

There is no other amp in the world that has a circuit or configuration anything like that in the 909. The current dumping amplifiers are one of the many strokes of pure genius by the late Peter Walker OBE, the founder of Quad. Quad 99 Pre. Description. The 99 Pre-Amplifier offers the highest possible performance combined with all the facilities which the serious audiophile needs. The overall sound of the 99 pre and 909 amp together was very balanced and neutral. The pair were completely unfatiguing without being overtly smooth-which may be attributed to the 909's lack of traditional feedback. There were no specific sonic artifacts to interrupt my listening, nor could I ever hear any colorations at any point in the spectrum.
Since dipoles are notoriously dependant upon room acoustics, I am tempted to say that dipole owners might want to try out the 99, if for nothing else, just for the Spectral Tilt feature. The 909 amp is a high-current design that delivers 140 watts into 8 ohms and 250 into 4.
