But the states announced they would not collect the settlements, opting instead to leave the money for people injured by the company’s airbags.
If you own one of the nearly 16 million vehicles with potentially faulty TAKATA air bags, you could be owed up to $500 as part of a consumer settlement with four automakers.
TAKATA admitted it built nearly 4.5 million faulty inflators in total and that many of the inflators are now in vehicles long out of service. The 1.4 million inflators are only an estimate and could easily grow in number.
