What is the TAKATA Compulsory Recall? Certain Toyota models have been recalled for front driver or front passenger airbag inflators that were manufactured by TAKATA. In involved vehicles, the non-desiccated propellant that inflates the driver's or passenger's front airbag (model dependent) could absorb moisture and degrade.
Vehicles equipped with air bags, including air bags that are under recall, save lives and reduce injuries. The vast majority of TAKATA air bags will perform as expected.
The Panel has completed its review and concludes that TAKATA must make significant improvements across the quality spectrum and, in particular, in three broad areas: (1) addressing quality-related concerns; (2) ensuring quality in TAKATA’s design and manufacturing processes; and (3) promoting quality through improved management practices.
