Talkatone has created a very compelling App solution for making and receiving free calls and texts to USA and Canadian numbers. They have embraced it being a great option as a second line, protecting your main number, with their burn feature allowing you to change your Talkatone number at anytime. Free is always tough to beat and it makes for a great second line option. If you want customer service and accountability for reliability and stability then this may not be the best solution for your main number.

Talkatone works on any cellular data or Wi-Fi service and allows users to call or text almost anyone in the world with a mobile device. This app helps you say goodbye to frustration, irritation and anger associated with common cell-phone problems.
Talkatone works flawlessly across a wide range of recent mobile devices running iOS or Android. This includes tablets, smartphones and some media players like the iPod Touch. When the app was first launched, there were a few complaints about call quality.
However, you should note that the app doesn't support 911 calls. Free inbound calls - No minutes are deducted for calls you receive through the app. You can also call toll-free numbers completely free.
